Quality Award - Michelle Fetich, BSN, RN, Clinical Nurse Manager, and Sharon Voelker, BSN, RN II

Congratulations to two selfless NICU nurses - Michelle Fetich, BSN, RN, Clinical Nurse Manager, and Sharon Voelker, BSN, RN II - on receiving the March Platinum Quality Award.

Here is the powerful story an inspired colleague wrote about Michelle and Sharon: “A patient born on the cusp of viability coded on our unit. Michelle was the patient's nurse, and Sharon was the charge nurse that night. The extensive code went on for about an hour and unfortunately, the team was unable to successfully resuscitate the patient. The grieving parents immediately left the hospital when the code ended, as it was their way of coping with the loss."

"Due to the amount of EPI that was given to the infant, the baby's heart was still beating, if ever so slowly. When the code was called, without hesitation, Sharon and Michelle swaddled the patient and took turns holding him over the next hour or so until his heart stopped so that he would finally feel the comfort of being held and to be there with him so that he would not die alone. They played soft lullaby music for him and whispered to him how much he was loved before he drifted.”
