Members of Girl Scout Gateway Service Unit Troops 4514 and 42024 stopped by Phoenixville Hospital on Tuesday, May 7 with a cookie donation to Hospital leaders. This is the first year the Girl Scouts offered the Hometown Hero program allowing Troops to designate a local charity and deliver cookie donations in person.

“Our Girl Scout Troops chose to donate cookies to the Phoenixville Hospital because they believe the nurses, doctors, and all hospital staff are hard working men and women who deserve to be recognized for everything they do,” stated Troop Leader, Jenn Miller. “These cookie donations are just a small way the Girl Scouts can show gratitude to the men and women who make our community a great place to live.”

The Hometown Hero Program is a nationwide community service project where Girl Scout troops may decide on a charitable organization or service group they would like to support with cookie donations. These organizations range from shelters and food banks, to military organizations such as the USO.

Through the Hometown Hero Program, customers purchased one or more boxes of Girl Scout Cookies during the recent annual sale and donated them to the Troop’s Hometown Hero charity of choice. The Girl Scout Troops receive credit for this sale while supporting another local charity. The Hometown Hero program has really given the girls a great opportunity to give back to the community.
