Phoenixville Hospital has been designated an Aetna Institute of Quality® for the Cardiac Medical Intervention and Cardiac Rhythm programs.

Aetna makes information about the quality and cost of health care services available to its members to help them make informed decisions about their health care needs. In line with this goal, Aetna recognizes hospitals and facilities in its network that offer specialized clinical services for certain health conditions. Facilities are selected for consistently delivering evidence-based, safe care. To earn a designation, a facility is evaluated for clinical quality, cost efficiency and network access for specific cardiac programs.

Phoenixville Hospital earned these designations in both Cardiac Medical Intervention and Cardiac Rhythm.  Cardiac medical interventions are mostly performed by a Cardiac Interventionalist in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab to open up narrowed arteries and/or blockages. Abnormal cardiac rhythms or arrhythmias are treated through medication or an electrophysiology procedure performed by a Cardiac Electrophysiologist in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Each year, the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Phoenixville Hospital performs over 2,200 procedures to aide in medical interventions and cardiac rhythms.

Sue Reichenbach, Chief Quality Officer at Phoenixville Hospital, stated, “This designation from Aetna has come at a pivotal time in our hospital’s history. We are embarking on a new health system, Tower Health, focused on providing quality care for our community, and we are thrilled to be recognized by Aetna.”

The cardiac program at Phoenixville Hospital is one of the busiest in Chester County, caring for over 5,000 patients each year. Services provided include: cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology procedures, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac rehab, non-invasive diagnostic cardiology studies, and a heart failure clinic.
