Pottstown, PA (October 5, 2020) — Pottstown Hospital Clinical Manager of Emergency Services, Tara McMahon, BSN, RN, was awarded an EveryDay Heroes teddy bear, presented by community member Obie Mild, for her outstanding work throughout the pandemic.

“This Everyday Heroes teddy bear has traveled many, many miles to be in Pottstown today,” Mild said. “Handmade in Coburg, Germany by the Hermann-Spielwaren company, the Everyday Heroes teddy bear is a reminder of the importance of medical staff and all those who continue working to keep our world running during these unique and trying times,” Mild said.

Only 100 of these special edition, keepsake bears were made worldwide. The bear’s felt paw pads are both embroidered with special messages. On the right, it features the year 2020 and “Helden des Alltags” which means “Everyday Heroes” in German. The left foot features a heart and the words “Wir sagen Danke” which translates to “We say Thank You.”

Tara has worked at Pottstown Hospital for eight years and was recommended for this honor by the Hospital’s executive leadership team.

"Tara is highly regarded by her peers and administration for her knowledge and expertise of emergency medicine,” said Sharon Mohr, MSN, RN, Emergency Department Patient Care Director. “She leads by example and the pandemic was no exception. Informational updates and recommendations were changing hourly. We were faced with the need to test our community for COVID-19 inside and outside of our Emergency Department.”

Tara volunteered to lead the way, helping to develop a plan/process for testing patients while keeping everyone safe.

“She trained her team, along with hospital staff, in proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), specimen sampling and safety,” Mohr said. “Tara is a strong contributor to our team’s success. She is our 'Everyday Hero'!"
