Throughout the month of September, Pottstown Hospital - Tower Health’s Center for Orthopedics & Spine and 5th Floor Unit Practice Councils (UPCs) held a collection for the Boyertown Area Multi-Service through Preston's Pantry Project.

“Pottstown Hospital has received a significant amount of support during the pandemic and we wanted to give back to the community,” said Julie Rexrode, MSN, RN-BC, Ortho Nurse and UPC Chair.

In May 2018, Preston Dray ran a food drive for the Boyertown Area Multi-Service as a school project. Onlookers were inspired as an 8-year-old taught an entire community a lesson on charity and caring for others. After a tragic flash flood took his life in July 2019, a group of volunteers decided to honor his legacy with an annual food drive to support the Boyertown Area Multi-Service.

“Providing care involves more than just coming into work each day and caring for our patients, families, visitors, and colleagues,” said Judd E. Strauss, MSN, RN, CNL, Patient Care Director, Center for Orthopedics & Spine and 5th Floor. “It is so important that we are ambassadors and care for our surrounding community, and I am very proud of my team for their dedication and compassion to our patients and the communities we serve.”

Through its collection, the Hospital was able to donate a total of 276 pounds of items to the Boyertown Area Multi-Service, a nonprofit organization that provides services to meets the needs of individuals, families, and seniors in Berks and Montgomery Counties.

“It was very rewarding to be able to support and give back to others during these difficult times,” said Kim Thomas, RN, 5th Floor Nurse and UPC Chair.
