Pottstown Hospital - Tower Health has earned accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) for extracranial cerebrovascular testing. The IAC accredits imaging facilities and hospitals that provide vascular testing.
“This latest accreditation is additional proof that Pottstown Hospital continues to focus on ways to improve patient care, particularly in vascular testing,” said Brian A. Solomon, Chair of the Department of Radiology at Pottstown Hospital.
Extracranial cerebrovascular testing assesses for changes in blood flow in the cervical carotid, common carotid, internal carotid, external carotid, and vertebral arteries. Test results can indicate the presence of plaque buildup that blocks or narrows blood flow to the brain, which could cause a stroke.
“Accurate diagnosis depends upon the skill and experience of the technologists performing the procedure, the testing equipment and the quality of the assessment metrics,” Dr. Solomon explained. “Pottstown Hospital’s IAC accreditation indicates to patients that they can rely on the hospital for consistent quality in extracranial cerebrovascular testing.”
To achieve vascular accreditation, Pottstown Hospital underwent an intensive application and review process, which included critical operational and technical components, representational case studies, and their corresponding final reports.
