Annetta Martin
“I was worried about going home and being ill prepared to live my life at home until a week before discharge. Everything started falling into place. I was able to walk better, write better, and feed myself. I concentrated on getting out of bed without the bed rails. My therapists really put an effort to promote self care.” - Annetta Martin

The Full Story

Annetta was admitted to the acute rehab unit after being hit by a motor vehicle while riding her bike, resulting in acute lower extremity paralysis secondary to cervical spinal cord injury. On admission, Annetta required a mechanical lift for transfers and was functioning at a maximal assistance to dependent level for most other tasks.

Annetta progressed to a modified independent level for wheelchair mobility, transfers, and activities of daily living. Due to her motivation, consistent positive attitude, and intense inpatient rehabilitation program, she was discharged home and will be continuing outpatient therapy services at Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing.
