Success Story - Robert Kallos

Bob was admitted to the acute rehabilitation unit after a massive intracranial hemorrhage resulting in a lengthy acute care hospitalization. When Bob first came to Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing, he needed assistance from staff with transfers, ambulation, and activities of daily living. He demonstrated severe cognitive impairment and dysphagia.

Bob endured hours of stretching to achieve improved posture and participated in intense strength and balance tasks, despite difficult challenges and setbacks. He worked diligently with speech therapy on cognitive and swallowing strategies. Bob brought vibrant energy to the gym every day and enjoyed classic rock while working hard.

Bob was discharged home on a regular diet. He was able to stand up without assistance and walk without a walker, with some steadying assistance from a helper. Bob began outpatient rehab at Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing after discharge and progressed rapidly. He transitioned from using a walker to ambulating with no device at home and in the community. He had a positive attitude towards therapy and enjoyed being challenged. At the end of therapy, Bob was able to run, hop, and jump!
