Success Story - Tomas Rodriguez

“I am glad for the people who worked with me and trained me to learn more. I learned how to read, write, and talk again." - Tomas Rodriguez
In His Words...
“I am glad for the people who worked with me and trained me to learn more. I learned how to read, write, and talk again. I have come a long way with my walking. I thank the staff at Reading Hospital Rehab. Thank you, Kevin and Lincoln, for your patience and for pushing me. Thank you, Jo, for helping me with stretching my arm. Thank you, Allison and Jamie, for helping me with my speech and language so I could communicate better.”
The Full Story
Tomas was admitted to the acute rehabilitation unit after hospitalization for a stroke. He presented with right-sided weakness, right facial droop, dysarthria, and aphasia and underwent a thrombectomy and ICA stent placement. When he arrived at rehab, he required the assistance of two people for transfers, he was on a modified diet, and he was only able to say a few words.
After an intensive inpatient rehabilitation program, Tomas gained significant function back and was able to walk long distances with a cane. He was discharged home on a regular diet and with assistance from speech therapy, was able to regain his language skills to communicate effectively in all situations. Tomas will continue his therapy journey at our outpatient location, and we look forward to his continued progress!
