The National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Memorial Bike Ride - a seven-day, 540-mile ride to honor fallen EMS providers - will pass the Reading HealthPlex for Advanced Surgical & Patient Care on Wednesday, May 17, at approximately 5 p.m.
Each of the 100 or so cyclists is riding in memory of an EMS provider who has died in the past year. The ride began in Boston, Mass., on Saturday, May 13, and concludes with a formal ceremony in Arlington, Va., on Friday, May 19.
The cyclists will ride about 85 miles on Wednesday. In the early afternoon, they will participate in a ceremony at Fleetwood Volunteer Fire Company in memory of a paramedic and instructor to emergency management technicians (EMTs). After the ceremony, they will proceed to Reading, and they are expected to be greeted by crowds at a handful of sites, including the Reading HealthPlex.
The National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Memorial Bike Ride is a non-profit organization that honors the work and dedication of emergency medical service providers. Five long distance bicycle rides are held annually in various parts of the country. Reading Health System employees have been invited to watch the ride outside the Reading HealthPlex.
