Join in the 2018 Berks Trail Challenge

Warmer weather means more time outside and Berks County residents are invited to participate in the Berks Trail Challenge. The challenge is presented by Be Well Berks, an initiative of the Community Wellness Department of Reading Hospital, and encourages residents to explore nearby parks, hiking and mountain bike trails.

"Go take a hike," said Desha Dickson, Associate Vice President, Community Wellness, Reading Hospital. "That's really what the Berks Trail Challenge is all about. We want to encourage individuals and families to get out, be active, and explore the different parks and trails available in our area. We've added a challenge to make it even more fun."

The Berks Trail Challenge began on May 1 and will continue through November 30. Participants can register here and print out a challenge card for each participant, or family, to record trail visits. The challenge card lists the nine different trails with the lengths and terrain of each. The trails range in length from one to eight miles long.

"The challenge is to visit as many of the trails as possible and record a unique symbol on the challenge card. You can find the unique symbols at park information stands and other locations throughout the trail near original trail markers" said Dickson.

Completed challenge cards must be received prior to November 30 to be entered in a drawing to win prizes. Prize winners will be selected and announced on December 3.

Trail visitors are encouraged to post pictures on social media to win weekly prizes beginning July 16. We will randomly select one photo from all who submit and tag photos to win the weekly prize. To enter the weekly prize drawings, participants are encouraged to take pictures of their trail outings and post them to the Reading Hospital - Tower Health social media platforms including Facebook at facebook.com/readinghospital; on Instagram, @TowerHealthPA; and on Twitter, @ReadingHosp.
