Reading Hospital to Host May 24 Reception for High School Interns

Reading Hospital will recognize nine local seniors from Reading and Wilson High Schools who have completed the Reading Hospital High School Internship Program at an end-of-year celebration.

The reception celebrating the accomplishments of the fourth class of interns will be held on Thursday, May 24, 1 to 3 p.m., in the Thun/Janssen Auditorium of Reading Hospital, 400 S. 6Th Ave., Reading. A formal program will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Free parking is available in the 6th Ave. garage. The event is open to the public.

Four students from Reading High School and five students from Wilson High School served as interns during the 2017-2018 school year. The goal of the program is to expose the students to the wide variety of careers in healthcare, both clinical and non-clinical, and provide them with hands-on opportunities to learn, while also teaching them skills they can use in the future such as financial literacy, resume writing and interviewing techniques.

A number of past interns have continued to stay involved with the hospital after they completed the program through summer internships, or by working in per diem, part-time, and even full-time positions.
