Reading Hospital Receives Accreditation as Level I Trauma Center - the Highest Designation Given

Reading Hospital has received accreditation as a Level I Trauma Center from the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation. This is the highest level of accreditation available for trauma care.

Reading Hospital is Berks County's only Level I Trauma Center, which means that patients in the region with the most life-threatening injuries will be brought to Reading Hospital. Level I accreditation indicates that the Trauma Center provides multidisciplinary treatment and specialized resources for trauma patients, conducts trauma research, has a surgical residency program and treats at least 600 major trauma patients per year.

Reading Hospital is meeting and exceeding rigorous industry standards for providing the most-advanced trauma care possible. In 2017, Reading Hospital had 3,101 trauma patient contacts that touched the lives of families across the region. Prior to this new level of accreditation, Reading Hospital was accredited as a Level II Trauma Center, a distinction it earned in 2005.
