Reading Hospital Receives an 'A' for Patient Safety

It was announced today that Reading Hospital has received a top grade - an "A" - for The Leapfrog Group's Spring 2018 Hospital Safety Grades. This top grade, awarded to only 750 hospitals across the country, helps patients know they're receiving care in a hospital with an excellent patient-safety record.

"We have a tremendous responsibility to ensure that every patient is safe in our care," said Clint Matthews, President and CEO. "Patient safety is at the core of what we do. Our physicians and staff are dedicated to performance excellence, and this 'A' grade reflects our collective attention to detail and our commitment to putting patients first."

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization that monitors and publicizes healthcare quality and safety results to help consumers chose their providers wisely. Leapfrog's Safety Grade assigns grades, A through F, to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients in their care.

Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, said that receiving an "A" Safety Grade means a hospital is among the best in the country for safety and putting patients first.

Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to approximately 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

"I am very proud of our physicians and staff members for their focus on safety," Matthews said. "This grade reflects their dedication to Advancing Health and Transforming Lives."
