On Monday, August 2, The Friends of Reading Hospital (The Friends) hosted 84 golfers at the Annual Tower Golf Classic at the Berkshire Country Club in Reading. Proceeds from the event went towards The Friends's $100,000 commitment to a fundraising project in cooperation with the Reading Hospital Foundation to purchase a Reading Hospital Mobile Mammography Coach.

The new Mobile Mammography Coach will allow Reading Hospital to bring the screening to the patient, removing transportation barriers. The vehicle is outfitted with the latest technology, including 3D tomosynthesis, and uses a digital mammography screening tool that improves the accuracy of imaging (reducing unneeded follow-up visits), enabling caregivers to detect more invasive cancers. The Mobile Mammography Coach will have the capacity to perform 20 mammograms per day in the community, reaching approximately 4,000 women a year.

“The Friends's commitment to the health of our communities is admirable,” said Therese Sucher, Interim President and CEO at Reading Hospital. “With this generous donation from The Friends, we are on track to offer mobile mammography services to our communities in 2022."

The Friends of Reading Hospital President Sharon Keating said, “The Friends have been providing funding for life-saving programs and initiatives for more than 130 years. These programs impact hospital patients, their family members, hospital team members, and the communities. I’d also like to recognize Lucine Sihelnik and Betsy Powers, event co-chairs, for their work on this successful event.”
