In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month Reading Hospital collected 2,275 pairs of shoes for men, women, and children. New and gently used shoes were collected from October 4 to 25 and will be donated to Opportunity House and Hope Rescue Mission.
"Opportunity House provides emergency and supportive services to 1,500 members of our community on annual basis," said Kate Alley, Chief Development Officer, at Opportunity House. "This generous donation will help us fulfill our mission to empower people to stand on their own feet."
The "Sole Survivor" collection began three years ago as a way for hospital employees to support survivors of domestic violence and has seen significant growth year over year. In 2018, 1,200 pairs of shoes were collected and in 2017 hospital employees donated approximately 800 pairs of shoes.
