Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing is sponsoring the National Amputee Golf Association's "First Swing/Learn to Golf" Clinic, led by Vice President Adam Benza of the Eastern Amputee Golf Association. Adam will demonstrate some adaptive golf equipment before leading the group onto the course to practice hitting golf balls. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 5, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Sittler Golf Center located at 497 Mountain Home Road in Sinking Spring. This program is free for up to 60 participants with disability and their family members.
Adam Benza is a below knee amputee who lost his right leg at the age of nine due to cancer. Adam developed a passion for golf while playing a variety of sports throughout his youth. He has been involved with the Eastern Amputee Golf Association and the First Swing Clinics since 2009. Adam has competed and won numerous amputee events including EAGA - 3 Eastern Regional Titles and NAGA - Below Knee Champion 2011, won three club championships, represented the United States in the first Disabled Golf Team Championships in Japan, played on numerous Unites States Teams for the International Team Matches, and has competed in professional and high-end amateur tournaments. Adam's goal is to use his passion for the game and knowledge of teaching to grow the game of golf for future generations, specializing in engaging persons with disabilities.
