On Friday, October 27, the American Heart Association will present four elite awards to Reading Hospital-Tower Health. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. and the awards presentation will take place at noon in the Thun/Janssen Auditorium.

Reading Hospital was one of 1,481 U.S. hospitals that were noted for demonstrating "unfaltering commitment to providing cardiovascular patients with quality, evidence-based treatment that is the heart of [the American Heart Association's] life-saving quality programs."

On October 27, Reading Hospital will receive:

  • Gold Plus Achievement and Target Heart Failure in the "Get with the Guidelines - Heart Failure" category
    Hospitals that achieve this award are recognized for two or more consecutive years of 85 percent or higher adherence on all achievement measures applicable; 75 percent or higher adherence with four or more select quality measures in heart failure; and a focus on medication optimization, early follow-up care coordination and enhanced patient education.
  • Gold Plus Achievement and Target Stroke in the "Get with the Guidelines - Stroke" category
    Hospitals that achieve this award are recognized for two or more consecutive years of 85 percent or higher adherence on all achievement measures applicable, at least 75 percent or higher adherence with five or more select quality measures in stroke, and a "Time to Thrombolytic Therapy" of less than 60 minutes for 50 percent or more of applicable acute ischemic stroke patients to improve quality of patient care and outcomes.
  • Gold in the "Mission Lifeline - Receiving" category
    Hospitals that achieve this award are recognized for consecutive 2-year intervals of 85 percent or higher composite adherence to all ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Receiving Center Performance Achievement indicators and 75 percent or higher compliance on each performance measure.
  • Bronze in the "Mission Lifeline - NSTEMI" (Non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction) category
    Hospitals that achieve this award are recognized for at least one consecutive 90-day interval of achieving 65 percent adherence to Dual Antiplatelet prescription at discharge and 75 percent or higher compliance on each of the other 4 performance measures.

This is the ninth consecutive year Reading Hospital has received the Heart Failure Program Gold Achievement award, the seventh consecutive year it has received the Gold Plus Achievement award and the fifth consecutive year it has been recognized on the Target: Heart Failure Honor Roll. This year also marks the 11th year the Stroke Program has received the Gold Plus Achievement Award and the fourth year receiving the Target Stroke Honor Roll award. 

This is also the fourth year Reading Hospital participated in the Mission Lifeline program, again achieving Gold recognition for being a STEMI Receiving facility and achieving Bronze status in the first year of the program's Mission Lifeline - N-STEMI program.
