Care Begins Before Delivery
I encourage everyone to visit their obstetrician/gynecologist (OB/GYN) or midwife as they begin family planning. This important visit lays the foundation for a healthy pregnancy and is an opportunity to work with your provider to create a plan of how you hope your pregnancy to go, including exercise, nutrition and other key components that are important to you.
Throughout your pregnancy, you will have a series of appointments where we monitor and track your baby’s growth. At these appointments, you will hear your baby’s heartbeat, see them on an ultrasound, and be amazed at how fast they are growing.
These appointments also give you the opportunity to ask any personal questions and develop your birthing plan.
Preparing Families for Birth
To help your family feel confident for the arrival of baby, we offer in-person and virtual tours and educational information sessions with topics ranging from what to expect during childbirth to breastfeeding, car seat safety, infant CPR and more. Financial assistance is often available to ensure access to our classes.
Our primary goal is to make your birth experience safe, supportive, and joyful. At our Beginnings Maternity Center, we offer private birthing suites equipped with the latest technology and designed for your comfort. These rooms also easily convert and adapt to meet the medical needs of moms and babies, as necessary.
During your stay, you’ll enjoy amenities, such as spa-like bathrooms, plenty of space for visitors to meet your newest family member, a comfortable sleeping couch for your birthing partner, Wi-Fi, flatscreen TVs, refrigerators for your favorite snacks and room service dining.
Expert Care for Complex Cases
If you or your baby has a higher risk of health problems, we offer a team of maternal fetal medicine physicians who provide advanced care for high-risk pregnancies, both before and after delivery.
High-risk pregnancies may have more frequent appointments, additional testing and require close monitoring to assure the health of you and your baby. Our facilities combine advanced monitoring capabilities while providing privacy and comfort.
If your baby needs additional support after delivery, our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides advanced newborn care. The unit is staffed 24/7 with neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners and critical care-trained physician assistants who have advanced technologies at their fingertips to care for our youngest patients.
Care Continues After Birth
At Reading Hospital, your care continues after delivery. If you choose to breastfeed, our team of experts help you and your baby as you learn together. Our certified lactation consultants visit you bedside to provide support and guidance.
After delivery, your emotional recovery is just as important as your physical recovery, and it is not uncommon to feel overwhelmed. We check in with you about your emotions and perform screenings. If you need extra help to navigate the change, we have a team of behavioral health experts who can help.
