PGY-1 Rotations

The PGY-1 year includes four months of primary care (family medicine, emergency medicine, internal medicine) and two months of adult neurology at Reading Hospital.

The remaining six months consist of three months in inpatient psychiatry at Tower Behavioral Health and Haven Behavioral Health, one and a half months doing consultation and liaison, and one and a half months in the psychiatric emergency room at Reading Hospital.

While on primary care and neurology, residents participate in the primary care and neurology didactic curricula. All PGY-1 residents are provided the same psychiatric didactic curriculum while on psychiatry to ensure that all residents gain the crucial introductory educational program to prepare them for the remainder of their training.

PGY-2 Rotations

Residents in the PGY-2 year rotate through a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings at Reading Hospital, Tower Behavioral Health, and Caron Foundation. Two months are spent doing child and adolescent psychiatry, forensics/neuromodulation, and adult inpatient psychiatry. Additionally, residents will spend one month each in community psychiatry, geriatrics, addictions, consultation-liaison, emergency psychiatry, and partial hospital program.

PGY-3 Rotations

The PGY-3 year is spent entirely in the outpatient practice at Tower Behavioral Health. Outpatient caseloads are monitored to ensure a balanced caseload and diversity of treatment types.

PGY-4 Rotations

Residents in the PGY-4 year spend 50 percent of their time in outpatient and the remaining time is spent on electives. During their elective time, residents will have the opportunity to gain experience as “Junior Faculty” or return to previous rotations for further experience based on their interests. Residents may also be eligible for fast track into fellowship programs given that our clinical curriculum allows for completion of required rotations prior to the PGY-4 year.
