Christopher A Butts, DO
Program Director, Reading Hospital Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program Associate Professor of Surgery, Drexel University College of Medicine Medical Director, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Division of Trauma, Acute Care Surgery, and Surgical Critical CareChristopher Butts, PhD, DO, FACOS, FACS, is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery at Perlman School of Medicine. He is currently the Program Director for the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship, Medical Director of the SICU, and a practicing trauma/acute care surgeon at Reading Hospital. Before joining the staff at Reading Hospital, he obtained a PhD in Biological Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 2009. From there he went on to complete his osteopathic training at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he received his DO degree in 2012 and completed his surgical residency in 2017. He completed his Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ in 2018. He is a fellow of both the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons and is also active in several national societies including the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and Southeastern Surgical Congress. His research interests include trauma and emergency surgery outcomes, disparities in trauma and emergency general surgery care, and injury prevention.
Abigail C Coots, MD
Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery, Drexel University School of Medicine Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery, University of PennsylvaniaAbigail Coots, MD is a trauma, acute care surgery, and surgical critical care surgeon in the Division of Trauma at Reading Hospital. She is board-certified in general surgery and Surgical Critical Care by the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Coots graduated from medical school at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She then completed a general surgery residency at the Naval Medical Center San Diego and a Research Fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. She served as a general surgeon at US Navy Hospitals in Oak Harbor, Washington, and Okinawa, Japan. After completing her time in the Navy, Dr. Coots completed a surgical critical care fellowship at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
At Reading Hospital, Dr. Coots is focused on the education of medical students and residents. She is core faculty for both the General Surgery Residency Program and the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship. She is also the co-clerkship director for medical student clerkships and is the resident director in the Division of Trauma. In addition to her interest in medical education, she is interested in patient safety, quality, and process improvement.

He has been a clinical leader at Tower Health in the architecture of clinical care spaces, processes, and information systems, and the integration of the three. He has presented his work in regional, national, and international venues.
In addition to his clinical leadership at Tower Health, Dr. Reilly has been involved in advocacy and policy-making at both the state and national level, and has a strong interest in education and research, serving as faculty for both the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship and General Surgery Residency at Reading Hospital.
