Protected Educational Conference Time

23 hours of protected conference time per month achieves the goals of the CREOG core curriculum. Each workday begins with service rounds followed by a protected educational session attended by all residents and most of the 49 faculty members.

Conference and Course Fundings

Funding is provided to attend national conferences in your second through fourth postgraduate years. Residents are also encouraged to present research at National meetings.

Support Services

Collaborations with departments that will enhance your educational experience include pathology, radiology, oncology, anesthesia, emergency medicine, neonatology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery. Laboratory services, IV teams, EKG technicians, and other support personnel are available 24 hours a day.

Library and Communication Services

Access to a comprehensive, multisource learning facility with 10,000 volumes, 200 periodicals and a computerized research center with multiple databases, as well as a computer link to smaller clinical collections, are available. The OB/GYN resident library in The Beginnings Maternity Center offers additional resources including computer access to the National Library of Medicine, resident email, and Internet access.

Facilities

For obstetrics (in The Beginnings Maternity Center): Complete LDR suites, a postpartum nursing unit and nursery, a neonatal intensive care nursery, surgical procedure rooms, and an intensive care/recovery area. You will also have experiences with genetic counseling in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and in our associated Invitro Fertilization Clinic and Laboratory.

For gynecology patients: inpatient services at Reading Hospital include comprehensive diagnostic and treatment modalities such as:

  • Surgical services
  • Oncology services
  • Urogynecology
  • Minimally-invasive surgical services
  • Reproductive endocrinology
  • Robotic services surgical

Additional surgical experience (both inpatient and outpatient) includes microsurgery, laser surgery, video laser, colposcopy, urethroscopy, hysteroscopy, and pelivscopy. Ambulatory procedures and skills are practiced in the outpatient services department, at private physician practices on campus, and in our maternal-fetal medicine center.
