Faculty - Psychiatry Residency (RH)

Dr. Daisy Shirk obtained her B.A. in Psychobiology from New York University and her medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. She then completed a Psychiatry Residency and Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Upon completion of her training, Dr. Shirk worked in Private Practice and served as Medical Director for Keystone Children and Family Services in Central Pennsylvania. She has also served as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Penn State Health, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where she later started the Public and Community Psychiatry Fellowship. She has also received the distinction of Distinguished Fellow of both the APA and AACAP. She is now the Program Director for the General Psychiatry Residency Program at Reading Hospital - Tower Health and is the Division Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Shirk is board-certified in General Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Community Psychiatry. Dr. Shirk is a “foodie” who loves to travel, read, and make quilts.

Dr. Eduardo Espiridion is the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Reading Hospital. He completed his Psychiatry residency training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center-Hillside Hospital (now known as Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell at Zucker Hillside Hospital) in Glen Oaks, New York. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in General Psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. He is also a Certified Physician Executive by the American Association of Physician Leadership. Dr. Espiridion is an Associate Professor at the Drexel University College of Medicine. He holds adjunct faculty appointments at PCOM and WVSOM. He is also the faculty course director for Behavioral Health at the medical school, Drexel University College of Medicine at Tower Health.  Dr. Espiridion is a recipient of several teaching awards, including the DUCOM Class of 2023 and Class of 2025 Golden Apple awards, the Nancy Roeske Certificate of Excellence for Medical Student Education from the American Psychiatric Association, Specialty Preceptor of the Year award (WVSOM), and Outstanding Teacher Recognition award. He is also a 2023 DUCOM Fellow of the Faculty Launch. Dr. Espiridion has been inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society by the Delta Zeta Chapter of the Drexel University College of Medicine. He has 48 published research articles to date. His research had been presented at regional, national, and international medical conferences. Dr. Espiridion also actively engages in research peer reviews. His areas of interest are Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychopharmacology.

William Santoro, MD, received his medical degree from Central University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in Puerto Rico. He did his Family Medicine Internship and Residency at Reading Hospital. He is board-certified in Addiction Medicine through the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the American Board of Addiction Medicine. He was also board-certified Family Medicine through the American Academy of Family Practice.

From 1985 until 2016, he had a private practice in Laureldale, PA which is now part of Tower Health Medical Group. He also served as the Medical Director at Albright College from 1985 to 2012 and as a health officer for the township of Laureldale from 1987 to 2015. 

He formerly served as the Medical Director at Reading Hospital Drug and Alcohol Program for the Center of Mental Health from 1988 until its closing in August 2020. He has also served as the Medical Director to New Directions Treatment Services, a methadone maintenance program since 1999 until 2021. He was the Associate Medical Director at the Caron Foundation from 1994 until 2002.

In 2014, Dr. Santoro was appointed the first Section Chief of Addiction Medicine, Department of Family & Community Medicine at Tower Health. Since 2016 he has focused his practice exclusively on Addiction Medicine. He served as President of the Pennsylvania Society of Addiction Medicine (PSAM) from 2021 until 2023. He begins his term as President of the Berks County Medical Society (BCMS) in 2023.

Dr. Santoro received the Berks County Medical Society Community Service Award in 1997; the Jasper G. Chen See Medical Professional Award for work in Addiction in 1997; the William J. Schofield III Award for work in Addiction in 2006; the Jacob Albright Award for Community Service in 2012; the Counsel on Chemical Abuse Professional Service Award in 2015; and the William Alexander Service Award in 2017.

His community activities include starting the medical clinic within the Reading – Berks Emergency Shelter. He was the founder and race director to the “To Reading and Back 10K” charity run for Easter Seals Society; Co-founder and race co-director of the “Alligator Run 10K” charity run for Crime Alert of Berks County; and Assistant coach to the Berks County Special Olympics track and softball teams. He also served as a volunteer medical director to the US Olympic Training Teams in Lake Placid New York. In his spare time, he enjoys running marathons.

Dr. Lee Radosh is the Medical Director of Reading Hospital’s Center of Excellence for Opioid Use Disorder, and practices addiction medicine in Tower Health Medical Group in Reading, PA. He earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Pennsylvania, then his medical degree at the Temple University School of Medicine. He completed a family medicine residency at Lancaster General Hospital in Pennsylvania, and a faculty development fellowship at Michigan State University. He became faculty at the Reading Hospital Family Medicine Residency in 2000 and served as program director from 2011 until 2017. He is credentialed through the National Institute of Program Director Development and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. From 2017-2019, while serving as part-time family medicine faculty, he completed the Caron Treatment Centers Addiction Medicine Fellowship in Wernersville, Pennsylvania, and is currently Fellowship faculty. He is board-certified in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Douglas Berne is a double boarded (adult and child and adolescent psychiatry) psychiatrist who is a consulting psychiatrist to the residency training program. He trained at Penn State College of Medicine for medical school, residency, and fellowship. He is currently the psychiatrist at KidsPeace Berks Campus Partial Hospital Program. Before that, he was the section chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Reading Hospital. He enjoys teaching students and is a popular speaker. Apart from teaching, he enjoys scuba diving, photography, movies, riding his motorcycle, and his several dogs, including one active and one retired therapy dog

Dr. John Gurski is an attending psychiatrist at Tower Health. He currently works as Medical Director of the Tower Behavioral Health Assertive Community Treatment Team and Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization program. His specific interests within psychiatry include community psychiatry and the treatment of chronic psychosis. He is originally from Philadelphia, PA where he also completed medical school at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and his residency training in Psychiatry at Albert Einstein Medical Center.

Dr. Khurram Janjua is a Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and General Psychiatry Attending at Tower Behavioral Health. Dr. Janjua completed his general psychiatry residency training at Harlem Hospital Center at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons. Dr. Janjua completed his fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Dr. Janjua enjoys spending time with family, long drives and exploring nature, baking pizza, woodworking, do-it-yourself projects, jogging, landscaping, and aquascaping.

Maria Lapchenko, DO, is a board-certified Adult and Forensic Psychiatrist with a special interest in teaching medical students and residents about topics germane to the medico-legal practice of psychiatry. She completed her Adult Psychiatry Residency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA where she served as the Administrative Chief Resident in her final year. She completed her Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship at University Hospitals/Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio in 2019.

Dr. Lapchenko’s clinical interests include the treatment of severe and persistent mental illness and psychiatric illness that co-occurs with intellectual disability and neurocognitive disorders.

In her free time, Dr. Lapchenko volunteers for various local organizations that address food insecurity in Southeastern PA.

Dr. Regina Reed completed an MD/PhD program at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Her research interests focus on psychopharmacology and substance abuse. She completed a Psychiatry Residency and Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at The University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Reed is board-certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry. She is working with the consultation-liaison service at Reading Hospital and is a member of the core faculty of the Tower Health Psychiatry Residency Program. Dr. Reed loves spending time with her family and enjoys creative writing and community theater.

Dr. Ruiza Yee completed her medical school training at the University of the Philippines. She did her Psychiatry residency at Temple University and a fellowship in Public Psychiatry at the University of PA. After her psychiatry training, she was in private practice for 25 years, during which time she served as the Medical Director of the Partial Program at the Reading Hospital and the Clozaril Clinic, which she continues to do to this day. She was the first in the region to establish a Clozaril Clinic. She had also been the Medical Director of the ACT Program. She was the first female psychiatrist in Reading. She has served as the Reading Hospital Psychiatry Department CME coordinator. She was the past president of the PA Psychiatric Society. She was the recipient of the Psychiatrist of the Year award from the Lehigh Valley Psychiatric Society. She is a Distinguished Lifetime Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. She has always enjoyed and has been involved in the education of medical students from Temple, PCOM, and Penn State/Hershey and PA students from DeSales University, as well as psychiatric residents from Temple, and residents from Family Medicine and Internal Medicine at the Reading Hospital. She is currently an Associate Professor at Drexel University and a Clinical Associate Professor at PCOM. In her free time, she has volunteered at the Food Pantry, her church in various capacities, her children’s school, and the Rotary Club. She loves to travel with her husband

Dr. Sahithi Gosala is a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree from Drexel University and is a graduate of Drexel University College of Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency training at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Dr. Gosala completed her Addiction Medicine Fellowship at Caron Treatment Centers.

Dr. Stephanie McDonough is a professor for the residency program. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Albright College in 2005, her master’s degree in Community Counseling from Alvernia College in 2008, and her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Immaculata University in 2019. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and will take her licensure exams at the doctoral level soon. Dr. McDonough’s current interests are traveling, both within the United States and abroad. Her hobbies include yoga and art.

Dr. George Woodruff attended Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA, where he received his BA in Psychology and Sociology. He then graduated from University of Pennsylvania, receiving his MSEd. in Psychological Services in Education and his PhD in Professional Psychology.

Dr. Gina Cavorsi has been a Tower Health Department of Psychiatry team member on and off since 2014. She currently oversees the Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) Unit in the ED. Dr. Cavorsi received both her MD and MBA from Temple University. She completed her training in Adult Psychiatry at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. She is board certified in Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Cavorsi’s previous experience includes serving as Medical Director of Lehigh Valley Health Network’s Psychiatric Emergency Service, Medical Director of Reading Hospital’s Partial Hospitalization Program, and Chief Medical Officer of Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital. Dr. Cavorsi reconnected with the PES in October 2020 to return to her emergency psychiatry roots, spend more time with her husband and three children, and take on the additional role of coaching girls and boys track and field at Wyomissing Junior-Senior High School. Before her career in medicine, Dr. Cavorsi was a Collegiate Academic All-American in Track and Field and a member of the US Bobsled Team.

Dr. Larry Rotenberg is a graduate of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver Canada. After completing a rotating internship at Philadelphia General Hospital, he completed his residency in Psychiatry at Temple University School of Medicine, where he was Chief Resident in Senior Year. Dr. Rotenberg would later complete his fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at Temple. He also spent time as a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, where he served as Chief of Psychiatry at the U.S. Army Medical Center in Okinawa. He has been Chair of Psychiatry at Reading Hospital and Professor of Psychiatry at Temple and PCOM. Dr. Rotenberg was the 2001 Sole Winner of the Presidential Award from the PA Psychiatric Society. His hobbies include opera, reading, and spending time with grandchildren.

Dr. Adam D. Scioli oversees all patient medical and mental health services. He came to Caron in 2015.

He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Scioli completed an internship at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, New York. He later completed his psychiatry residency training at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia where he was chief resident for two years and was conferred the title of Distinguished Laughlin Fellow for professional achievement, dedication, and scholarship.

Dr. Scioli simultaneously completed fellowship training through the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia, where his work focused on the relationship between addiction and attachment.

Dr. Scioli is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the American Board of Preventive Medicine (Addiction Medicine), and the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry (Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine). He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Fellow of both the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the American Osteopathic Academy of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Scioli is an officer of the board of trustees of the American Osteopathic Academy of Addiction Medicine, serving as the board’s secretary-treasurer.

Ming R. Wang, M.D. is the Associate Medical Director of Caron Treatment Centers’ Pennsylvania campus. Dr. Wang oversees Medical Services, Medical Stabilization, Chronic Pain, and Nursing.  Dr. Wang oversees the medical care of patients on the Older Adult Unit at the Pennsylvania Campus at Caron Treatment Centers. Dr. Wang facilitates the Caduceus Meetings on campus. Dr. Wang is a faculty member of the Caron – Reading Hospital Addiction Medicine Fellowship. He teaches the local and regional residents and medical students that rotate at Caron Treatment Centers.

Before his current position, Dr. Wang served as the Medical Director of the Older Adult Unit. Dr. Wang started his Addiction Medicine Career with Caron Treatment Centers in 2013 as an Addiction Medicine Fellow. He was hired as an addiction medicine physician in 2014 with Caron Treatment Centers. Dr. Wang is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Preventive Medicine, Addiction Medicine Specialty. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the Pennsylvania Society of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Wang is a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Penn State College of Medicine.
